Arabicschool may come under Wakf Board

Puducherry, Apr 5 (UNI) The Puducherry administration would consider bringing the Arabic School here under the control of the wakf-board, Chief Minister N.Rangasamy told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a question, the Chief Minister said the financial position of the wakf-board was not sound even to pay salary and other allowances to staff of the school. Hence, the administration would consider allocation of more funds to the Board.

To another question, the Cheif Minister said the administration would ensure that the benefits under the ''kulavilakku'' and ''Aravanaippu'' schemes reached the needy in time.

He said steps were being taken to provide assistance on the lines of old age pension to avoid the delay by way of scrutiny.

The Chief Minister said Rs 9,28,000 was provided to 1,856 pregnant women during 2005-06 and 2006-07 at the rate of Rs 500 each under the ''Kulavilakku'' scheme. Under the ''Araivanaippu'' scheme Rs 16,98,800 was disbursed to 2,244 beneficieries during 2005-06 and 2006-07 at the rate of Rs 500 each up to March 31, 2005 and from April 1, 2005 at the rate of Rs 1,200 per beneficery, he added.
