Alok Industries to set up textile specific SEZ in Silvassa

Silvassa, Apr 5 (UNI) Alok Industries, a leading textile manufacturing company, is setting up a textile specific SEZ here at a cost of Rs 125 crores.

Alok Industries had purchased 132 acres of private land for SEZ way back in 2005 and applied to the Centre for approval.

The Company proposes to set up a highly modern and advanced SEZ for the entire textile chain of activities and to utilise about 40 per cent of the SEZ for captive use, a release here today said.

Upon completion, the SEZ is expected to provide employment, directly or indirectly, to around 25,000 people, 60 per cent of whom would be locals. The SEZ would also improve infrastructure and increase the standard of living in and around the area.

The setting up of the SEZ by Alok would be of significance for the textile industry and many more such investments would be needed to achieve the target of USD 50 billion of exports set by the government of India for this industry.

Established in 1986, Alok Industries Ltd is a vertically integrated textiles solutions provider in India. A diversified manufacturer of world-class home textiles, apparel fabrics, garments and polyester yarns, Alok has capacities of 60 million metres of sheeting fabric for its home textiles business, 32.50 million metres of apparel width woven fabrics, 16,800 tons per annum of knitted fabrics and 8 million pieces per annum of garments, the release added.
