A notorious criminal from Uttaranchal killed in Nagpur

Nagpur, Apr 5 (UNI) A notorious criminal from Uttaranchal, who was involved in several serious offences in that state besides Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, was shot dead by the police in an encounter in a private hotel here today.

A police constable from Uttaranchal was injured during the operation in which four accomplices of the criminal were arrested from the hotel.

Speaking to reporters, Additional Commissioner of Police (CP) B K Upadhyay said that the criminal, identified as Angrez Singh Goma Singh (42), was shot down in this morning when he tried to resist the arrest when a joint team of the Uttaranchal police and the local crime branch raided the hotel where he had holed up along with his family members.

During the raid, Singh opened fire from a weapon in his possession, injuring constable Deepak Arora of Uttaranchal police, Mr Upadhyay said, adding that Singh himself sustained injuries when the police returned the fire. Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead before admission, he said.

The police seized a .32 pistol and 9 live cartridges from Singh's person, and another pistol besides Rs 20,000 in cash from his room, and 3 live cartridges from a car in which Singh is suspected to have travelled to Nagpur.

Earlier, police arrested Singh's elder brother Mukhtiyar Singh (45), wives Ratan Kaur (34) and Bachan Kaur (30) and his son Sonu Singh (20) from different rooms in the hotel. All the four were Agrez Singh's accomplices and involved in several offences in various states in north India.

The police also found in the hotel Singh's two sons, identified as Sunil (12) and Soma Sarari (16), and two daughters, identified as Sonia Sarari (10) and Sabbadar Sarari (9), but they have not been taken into custody, the Additional CP said.
