A British National and three Indians convicted in a drug case

Mumbai, Apr 5 (UNI) An NDPS special court today convicted four people, including a British national, 10-year Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) in a drug trafficking case of 2005.

Pronouncing the judgement, Additional Session Court Judge P B Sawant said accused Mubarak Abdul Rehman Sheikh (British National), Begani Julemani, Faruq Qureshi, Jainiauddin were held guilty for drug trafficking to suffer RI of 10-years.

Judge Sawant imposed fine of Rs three lakh on first two accused while other two were to pay Rs one lakh each as fine. In default, they would have to undergo further RI for six months.

However, two other persons- Mohammed Ilyash Khan and Mohammed Abbas Khan were acquitted due to lack of evidence against them by the court.

On February 19, 2005, the accused persons were intercepted by the Airport Intellegence Unit (AIU) while they were on their way to Saudi Arabia. During search of their belongings, the AIU sleuth had seized 5.8 kg of 'Heroin' from their possession.

During the interrogation, they had admitted that they were smuggling the drugs to Saudi Arabia.
