UP is India's guiding light: Rahul Gandhi

Mainpuri/Agra, Apr 4: Terming Uttar Pradesh as India's guiding light, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today exhorted the youth to come forward to change the destiny of the state with their ideas.

Addressing public meetings as part of his roadshow in run up to the state poll, Mr Gandhi said the freedom struggle "started in Uttar Pradesh itself, "which ended with the British leaving the country.

''The non-Congress governments in UP in the last 15 years have prospered by dividing the country on the basis of caste and religion,'' he alleged.

The state is lagging in development parameters due to this apathy, he added.

Terming the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in UP as the biggest barrier in development path, Mr Gandhi asserted the current regime has contributed nothing towards the welfare of the state.

''The time has come, when the youth shoulder the responsibility towards the betterment of UP,'' he added.
