SAARC leaders meet informally at retreat
New Delhi, Apr 4: Leaders of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), attending the 14th Summit of the regional grouping here, met at a retreat at the majestic Hyderabad House here today and held informal discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues.
The leaders Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz of Pakistan, Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Bhutan Prime Minister Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk and Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, Fakhruddin Ahmed also discussed SAARC-related developments.
The Summit which will conclude today, will adopt a Joint Declaration on the decisions taken at the two-day deliberations yesterday and today.
Earlier in the morning, the Pakistan Prime Minister called on Dr Singh at his residence at 7-Race Course Road.
The Maldivian President also met Dr Singh.
Bilateral, regional and international developments were discussed at the meetings.
Dr Singh is also scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse at the Vigyan Bhavan, the venue of the Summit, later this evening.
