Oppn forces adjournment of A P Assembly

Hyderabad, Apr 4: Opposition parties forced adjournment of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly as soon as it met for the day on various issues.

While the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) wanted the House to be adjourned to express solidarity with today's bandh on OBC reservations, the CPI, CPI(M) and the TRS sought discussion on their adjournment motions on the Gramasevaks problem.

Finance and Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah said there was no dispute on the demands of OBCs.

Clarifying that the Government had expressed solidarity by postponing the examinations and withdrawing the operation of Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses, the minister said the Central government was also positive in the matter. Other issues could be discussed and solved amicably.

He urged the opposition to allow discussion on motion of thanks on the Governor's address.

Pandemonium prevailed in the Assembly with the TDP members rushing to the well demanding adjournment of the House.

In the din Congress member Sridhar Babu moved the motion of thanks.

As the debate could not be conducted, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
