Mulayam responsible for dismal devp in UP: Modi

Agra, Apr 4: Drawing a contrast between development in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, senior BJP leader and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has blamed Mulayam Singh Yadav for the dismal situation of the state.

Raising the development issue durng an election meeting at Ramlila Ground last night, Mr. Modi compared the development in both the state while alleging that malafide intention and wrong policies by UP leaders were responsible for the lack of development here.

''Leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav should be blamed for the backwardness of UP,'' he alleged. It was shocking that the state with a lot of resources had been presenting such a dismal development scenario, he said.

Crores of rupees had been spent in the state by Samajwadi Party-ruled state in the past but the pathetic power situation, inadequate educational facilties in UP manifested ill-intentions of the leadership, Mr Modi said.

Coming down heavily on the Muslim appeasement policies of the Central as well as the UP government, the senior BJP leader dared SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati to publicly favour hanging of Afzal, the main accused in Parlaiment attack cae.

''It is shameful that the political parties like Congress and SP are against the hanging of Afzal in order to pursue their appeasement policy for the sake of votes,'' he charged.

Referring to scrapping of POTA, Mr Modi lamented, ''the move has given strength to the terrorist elements. It was no secret that the anti-nationalist elements had celebrated in the valley when POTA was scrapped." The Gujarat chief minister said the nationalist ideolgy of the BJP the only viable alternative in the present situation when all other parties were only engaged in follwoing separatist, casteist and religion-based politics.
