Bangalore, Apr 4: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, a Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHG) for Greater Bangalore is being attempted by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).

The Board had appointed Enzen Global Solutions, city-based Business Consulting and Solutions provider, for providing consulting services for the project.

The project was flagged off here yesterday by KPSCB Chairman H C Sharatchandra, a renowned authority on GHG emissions.

He said the Inventory was a first step towards evaluating emission findings in key sectors and introduction of measures to control the same. It would go a long way in making a cleaner and greener Bangalore.

Greenhouse gas emissions from industry, transportation and agriculture play a major role in global warming. Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and three groups of fluorinated gases were the subjects of the Kyoto Protocol. GHG emission estimates were required to comprehend the current state and simulate the future growth of GHG and work towards sustainability and corrective action.

According to Mr Vivek Maladkar, Associate Vice-President, Clean Energy Business Unit, Enzen Global Solutions, ''Greenhouse Gas Management and Reporting is posing new and complex set of challenges to the State Pollution Control Boards. Enzen Global Solutions will help to meet these challenges by delivering streamlined tracking, managing and reporting direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions.

The GHG programme can thus be managed with confidence, giving the granularity needed at the facility level and the enterprise capabilities required at the corporate level.''
