Forming govts not sole objective of politics: Sonia

Etawah/Jhansi/Jalaun, Apr 4: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today said the meaning of politics has been confined to merely forming governments, far from its real objective of public service.

Addressing election meetings here, Ms Gandhi warned the changed dynamics of politics would only spell disaster for the country.

''It is the need of hour to pursue politics by rising above the considerations of caste and religion...Forming governments is not the sole objective of politics,'' she added.

Ms Gandhi blamed the non-Congress governments in Uttar Pradesh for the present ''dismal development situation.'' ''Terror, hunger and criminalisation has spread everywhere in UP, instead of development and prosperity,'' she added.

Ms Gandhi asked the people to vote for Congress, if they want "peace and prosperity." Interestingly, She put the blame on the Mulayam Singh Yadav government for the current spate of high prices and inflation.
