Tremors rattle Kashmir; trigger panic among people
Srinagar, Apr 3 (UNI) A moderate earthquake rattled Jammu and Kashmir this morning, triggering panic among the people, who ran out of their homes.
The tremor, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, was experienced at about 0907 hrs. It was focused in the Hindukush mountains at 36.9 degrees north latitude and 70.6 degrees east longitude.
There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.
Meanwhile, two army helicopters were dispatched to Uri and Tangdhar.
Though no loss of life was reported in Uri from where the chopper has already returned, the copter from Tangdhar is yet to return.
Notably, the devastating October 8, 2005, quake had occurred in the region at around the same time.
