Stone quarries in eco-sensitive zone raided

Guwahati, Apr 3 (UNI) Two stone quarries in an eco-sensitive zone in Noonmati area of Guwahati were raided today.

An Amsingh-Jorabat forest range official here informed that the raids were conducted following a tip-off.

The quarries fall under the eco-sensitive zone of the area and had been functional for quiet a while, the official added.

However, no arrests were made as workers in both the quarries had fled before the forest ranger team could reach the spot.

The forest official also informed that ownership of the stone quarries was under dispute and investigations were on to find the owners.
