Pondy: Steps taken to prevent spread of chicken pox

Puducherry, Apr 3: The Puducherry administration is taking all steps to prevent the spreading of chicken pox, Health Minister E Valsaraj told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a special mention in this regard tabled by members A Anbazhagan (AIADMK), S P Sivakumar and A M H Nazeem (both DMK), and R Viswanathan (CPI), Mr Valsaraj said there was no need for panic as the situation was not alarming here.

This is a viral infection quite common in summer days and precautionary medicines are available with the General Hospital, he informed.

As per hospital statastics about 12 persons, including students, were affected with the disease since January this year.

Earlier, tabling the special mention, Mr Anbazhagan pointed out that more than 300 students in his Ouppalam constituency could not appear for examinations due to chicken pox. Even a death had occurred.

Mr Anbazhagan and other members urged the administration to take immediate preventive measures.
