Seer, his junior killed as train rams into van

Davanagere, Karnataka, Apr 3 (UNI) A religious leader and his junior were killed on the spot and another person seriously injured when a van in which they were travelling was hit by a train in an umnanned level crossing, near here, today.

Police said the mishap occurred when the seer, Punyananda Valmiki Swamiji of Rajanahalli (41), and his junior, Basavaraj (13), were returning to Davanagere from Karur in Harihara taluk.

The van driver was admitted to a private hospital here and his condition was stated to be critical.

Senior police officials visited the spot.

The last rites of the Swamiji would take place at Rajanahalli village tomorrow.
