"SAARC needs more runs on the board": Pak PM
New Delhi, Apr 3 (UNI) "SAARC needs to show more runs on the board," Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said today to underscore his point that the time had come for the regional organisation to show concrete results.
But he quickly realised that his use of cricket terminology may have been just a little bit inappropriate, given the fact that both Pakistan and India had made ignominious first-round exits from the ongoing World Cup in the West Indies, after humiliating defeats to minnows Ireland and Bangladesh, respectively.
"I realise that cricket may not be best analogy for some of us," he remarked to laughter during an interaction with a group of editors on the sidelines of the 14th SAARC Summit this afternoon.
Mr Aziz, however, warmed up to the cricketing theme again at the end of the session.
"We can only get better from here on. Our performances left a lot to be desired," he said.
"Perhaps, our cricket boards can consult each other about how notto do things and about how to do things," he added.
