Rekha Mahajan makes contradictory statements about letter
Mumbai, Apr 3 (UNI) Rekha Mahajan, prime witness in the murder case of her husband and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, today made ontradictory statements regarding a letter written in 1987.
The letter was written by Pramod Mahajan and was addressed to his younger brother Praveen, who stands accused of the murder of the BJP leader.
Rekha Mahajan, while deposing before additional sessions judge S P Davare here today, said she had read the letter which had been been written by Pramod Mahajan in 1987. Pramod Mahajan had handed over the letter to her to be delivered to Praveen Mahajan, she told the court.
However, later during her examination-in-chief by public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam, Rekha Mahajan said she had not read the letter and, so, was not aware of its contents.
To a query by defence advocate H H Ponda, Rekha Mahajan said she was seeing the letter for the first time in the court now after having delivered it to Praveen in 1987.
Pramod Mahajan, in the letter, had written about how he had raised Praveen as a son, despite which the latter nursed misunderstandings about the elder brother.
Rekha Mahajan told the court that she and her husband had come to Mumbai in June 1978 and had taken up residence at Chembur.
Praveen, too, was staying with them, she told the court. Praveen married on December 6, 1986, and six months after his marriage, took up residence at Thane, she further told the court.
Praveen Mahajan has been accused of murdering his elder brother Pramod Mahajan. He has been accused of firing three bullets at Pramod Mahajan on April 22 last year following which the latter succumbed to his injuries on May 3 while undergoing treatment at the Hinduja Hospital here. Praveen Mahajan had surrendered before the Worli Police.
