Pvt clinics, hospitals in Pudukkottai District closed

Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, Apr 3 (UNI) More than 250 Private Clinics and Hospitals in Pudukkottai were closed following a 'Dawn-to-Dawn' strike today, in protest against the alleged threat on private medical practitioners by a group of anti-social elements.

The strike, which began at 0600 hrs today would end at 0600 hrs tomorrow, said Dr S Syed Mohideen, Honorary Secretary of the Pudukkottai Branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Stating at least five cases of intimidation were reported in the past six months, in which private medical practitioners have been forced to pay some compensation, he alleged that anti-social elements intentionally brought the patients in a critical condition to the private clinics and threatened the medicos to pay compensation in case the patient dies.

The anti-social elements neither need the explanation from the doctors nor allow them to arrange for post-mortem to explain the truth, he pointed out.
