Police assures people of ending dacoit menace

Hubli, Apr 3 (UNI) Karnataka Crime and Technical Solutions Additional Director General of Police Subhash Bharani today assured the people of Dharwad district that the police were capable of dealing with dacoits, who had terrorised the villages.

Mr Bharani, who was here in connection with the arrest of eleven dacoits, including three women, of the 18-member gang that went on a looting spree in Dharwad district during the last two months, said the police were on the look out for the other seven culprits.

He said police bandobust and patrolling in these villages would be further intensified and armed policemen would be posted in the villages, besides holding Gram Sabhas (Village meetings) to deal with the menace. District entry points would also be checked.

To a question, Mr Bharani, however, said no arms would be provided to youths selected from each village during village meetings for patrolling.
