Nearly 58,000 security personnel to ensure peace during MCD polls
New Delhi, Apr 3 (UNI) Nearly 58,000 security personnel, including 2,584 from the para-military forces and 4,403 from the Home Guards, would man the smooth conduct of polls in the April 5 municipal elections in Delhi.
While 61 DCPs and Additional DCPs and 208 Assistant Commissioners would be among the 50,546 Delhi Police personnel to oversee 'peaceful polling', 994 Inspectors, 14,503 Head Constables and 27,672 Constables from its cadre would be part of the elaborate security arrangements in place for the elections.
Also, 34 companies of the central para-military forces, comprising 2,584 personnel, and 4,403 home Guards would be on duty for the coming Thursday polls.
Besides this, a separate 'police control room' ( 23934059, 23975060) has been set up by the Delhi Police, with area ACP as 'Nodal Officer/Coordinator' and SHO as 'Assistant Liaison Officer/Coordinator', and inter-state borders sealed from today to check movement of anti-social elements.
Wireless fitted vehicles, escorted by police personnel would transport the ballot boxes from the polling booth to counting centres.
Along with this, 55,000 government employees would be 'on duty' to help nearly 9,962,709 voters exercise their right to franchise at 9,649 polling booths where Electronic Voting Machines would be used for the first time.
The polling day has been declared a 'public holiday'.
