Meghalaya govt proposes to set up 4th Pay Commission

Shillong, Apr 3(UNI) Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Donkupar Roy today informed the Assembly that setting up of the fourth Meghalaya Pay Commission was under active consideration of the government.

To a query jointly raised by Meghalaya Democratic Party MLA Process T Sawkmie and Independent MLA Manas Chaudhuri, the Deputy Chief Minister said an additional expenditure of Rs 52 crore would be incurred annually if the proposed Commission was implemented.

Dr Roy said the government was contemplating to increase the pay structure of the state employees by 10 per cent, if the report of the Commission was implemented, according to a tentative assessment.

The first Pay Commission in Meghalaya was set up in August 1978, second in October 1986 and last came into existence in December 1998, he said.
