Srinagar, Apr 3 (UNI) Troops today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) fitted in side a transistor in north Kashmir.

A police spokesman said militants had planted a transistor fitted with the IED on the Sopore-Bandipora road to target security forces.

However, a Road Opening Party (ROP) of 15 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) immediately sealed the area and stopped traffic from both sides.

Later, a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED was defused without causing any damage, he said adding had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused much damage to life and property.

The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the militants responsible for planting the IED.
