Chennai, Apr 3 (UNI) Madras High Court today upheld a Government Order (GO) fixing November 30, 2006 as the last date for admission of students in Teachers Training Institutes (TTIs) for 2006-07.

Justice V Ramasubramanian upheld the GO dated November 14, 2006 while disposing of over 80 petitions.

The judge directed the government to issue guidelines prescribing the calender of activities for TTIs on date of commencement of course, cut off date for staff member approval, student admission, counselling for students under government quota, recruitment method for teaching, administrative and technical staff and number of days of instructions and internship.

The guidelines should be issued within two months and would take effect from 2007-08 academic year. The government must make it clear that grant of affiliation, approval of students and faculty members would be considered only if the TTIs got recognition order upto a particular date.

The institutes getting recognition beyond the cut off date would get affiliation and approval only from the following academic year.

On November 14, 2006 the government set November 20, 2006 as the last date for approval of list of faculty members and November 30, 2006 as the last date for admission of students.

Aggrieved by the cut off date, the present petitions were filed.

Meanwhile, in February 2007, the government extended the time limit for submission of list of faculty members to March nine, 2007.
