Karnataka: Free education for jail inmates

Bangalore, Apr 3: The Bangalore University has embarked on a programme to educate jail birds, serving either life term or imprisonment for a period above five years.

Karnataka Science and Technology Minister Ramachandra Gowda inaugurated the classes and distribution of teaching materials at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison here yesterday. Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy presided over the function.

Courses were imparted to the inmates of jails free of cost. The opportunity had been given to 500 prisoners in the State Central prison and other prisons in the state.
