Agartala, Apr 3: Opposition Congress party in Tripura today called for a 24-hour state-wide strike tomorrow in support of its charter of demands, revealing recurrence of internal feud within the party.

A number of frontal organisations of the Congress - The Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and Sevadal, under the guidance of the former minister Birajit Sinha called for the state-wide bandh.

On the other hand, the ruling CPI(M) and its various organisations strongly condemned and opposed the bandh, describing it as anti-people.

Commenting over tomorrow's proposed bandh, Congress spokesmen said that the timing of the bandh was wrong considering the various ongoing examinations and people eagerly waiting to make their yearly purchases from reduced-price markets at end of the Bengali year.

They said CLP had urgd the pro-bandh organisations to defer the date and timings considering the people's sentiments.

The Congress has always been for the people and considered people's sentiments, spokesmen added.

The bandh was cumulatively in protest against the March 14 police firing incident in Nandigram(West Bengal), in which 14 people were killed, prevailing water crisis in the state, partisan attitude regarding distribution of government jobs to the unemployed, law and order situation and the state government's alleged misappropriation of funds, including central funds for various developmental programmes.
