CCTV in Arthur road jail; new jail at Taloja

Mumbai, Apr 3 (UNI) Maharashtra minister of state for home Siddhram Mhetre today said CCTV would be put up in Arthur road jail apart from jammers in the backdrop of violent clashes among the jail inmates, leading to the death of one person recently.

Making a statement on the notice given by Madhu Chavan (BJP) and others, Mr Mhetre said while the Arthur road jail has the capacity to house 804 prisoners, at present 2639 are lodged there.

He said in order to avoid this situation, the government is constructing another jail at Taloja in Navi Mumbai wih the capacity of 2000. He said the work on this jail was in the final stages and n it would soon be functional.
