Shillong, Apr 3 (UNI) The Opposition BJP today castigated the ruling Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for making only tall promises, but not completing major projects in time.

Initiating the general discussion on the budget, BJP MLA Alexander Hek said the government instead of taking several projects at a time should have take limited projects so that it could be commissioned in time.

Citing that the system in land acquisition of the state was different from the rest of the country, the BJP legislator said the government should take those projects whichj were feasible and advocated for the utilisation of the unused defence land.

He also expressed concern over the traffic problem in the state capital. He said with 50 per cent subsidy more cars would ply, but there was no scope of widening the existing roads or construction of new roads to ease the congestion,he rued.

He urged the government to prepare proper planning before taking any new projects, citing examples that many projects had not been completed despite pumping huge amount of money such as Hotel Crowborough, Yatri Nivas etc because of various reasons.

Joining the debate, BJP legislator Jopsimon Phanbuh also lambasted the Government for poor allocation of funds to rural people specially the farmers. She said '' 80 per cent of the population live in the village and depends on Agriculture and allied sectors''. A negligible amount of Rs 73 crore was allocated which indicated only 6.52 per cent of the total annual plan budget for the rural people, she added.

The house was adjourned by Speaker M M Danggo when the discussion was on at 1230hrs for lack of quorum.
