Hyderabad, Apr 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur today announced that the state would be hut-free by 2009.

Addressing a joint session of the Assembly and the newly reconstituted Legislative Council, he said the government was determined to provide shelter to all people coming in Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories.

The Governor announced that the government proposed to undertake construction of 21 lakh houses during 2007-08 and added that budgetary allocation for housing was the highest in any year and the second highest among all sectors, next only to irrigation.

He said the government was aware of problems faced by many lower and middle class families, who did not have their own houses and it would soon come up with a programme to help the middle class families in this regard.
