Woman killed, 6 hurt in gang attack in Buldhana Dist

Nagpur, Apr 2 (UNI) A young woman was killed and six others injured when a group of armed men from their neighbourhood allegedly attacked them at village Shembla in Mehkar teshil of Buldhana district.

A gang of about 18 men, armed with knives, axes, daggers, spears and other sharp weapons, attacked the victims late last night. The cause of killing is stated to be an old enmity between the victims and the assailants, police said today.

The deceased was identified as Lopika Ranjita Pawar.

The police have arrested 4 persons in this connection and are looking for 14 others, who are absconding.

The assailants, involved in alleged criminal activities, suspected that the victims were police informers, police said.

The police have registered an offence against 18 persons under sections 302, 307, 324, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 4 and 35 of the Atrocity Act, and sections 31 and 25 of the Bombay Police Act, police added.
