VPT sets record in cargo traffic

Visakhapatnam, Apr 2 (UNI) The Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) became the first Indian major port to cross 56 million tonne mark in the cargo traffic, according to VPT chairman K R Kishore in the last fiscal.

VPT will also reach another milestone by retaining its premier port status for a record seventh conseutive year,Mr Kishore told reporters.

Despite the challenges in iron ore export and stiff competition from other ports in the country VPT had achieved this fate.

He said the ministry of shipping had set a stff target of 61 million tonnes for this fiscal.
