Tomato farmers can expect better price by April
Coimbatore, Apr 2 (UNI) The price of tomatos will increase during the next two months, according to the Domestic and Export Market Intelligence Cell functioning in the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).
In a statement here, the Cell today said there was a wide variation in the rice of tomatos between March 2006 and February 2007 and this had created a fear among the farmers of Tamil Nadu.
Market intelligence sources had confimed that traders of Kerala had directly procured tomatos from Mysore, Bangalore, Hosur and Dharmapuri markets.
The quantum of tomatos procured by Kerala from Coimbatore market had declined but it would increase in the coming months.
The Cell said the price of tomatos may increase to Rs 5 per Kg after April 2007 from Rs 3.50.
