TEA appeals to dyers to call off indefinite strike

Tirupur, Apr 2 (UNI) The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) today appealed to the dyers to call off their indefinite strike from April nine and urged them to work for the implementation of Marine Discharge Project.

The TEA, in a statement here, said the proposed stike called by the dyers would send wrong signals at a time when the Tamil Nadu government was sympathetically considering the dyers plea for setting up the Marine Discharge Project.

The Tamil Nadu government had made an announcement about the Central and state government's contribution of 25 and 15 per cent cost respectively for the project.

It may be recalled that the court had ordered the dyeing units to pay a fine of six paise each for a litre of effluent discharged from January one to March 31, eight paise for effluent discharged from April one to May 31 and ten paise from June one to July 31.

The units had so far paid around Rs five crore as fine in February last, the TEA added.
