Hyderabad, Apr 2: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) today strongly condemned the ''politicisation of the IIT issue'' by the Telugu Desam Party and other political parties.

NSUI state president Ch Vamsi Chand Reddy said in a statement here that irrespective of politics, every one should appreciate the government for getting the land sanction for the prestigious IIT.

Opposition TDP wants the institute to be set up at Basara in Nizamabad district as was stated in the resolution passed by the state assembly, while an expert committee, set up by the government after visiting several places in the state including Basara, suggested that the ideal location would be Kandi in Medak district.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy yesterday announced that the institute would be set up in Medak district as suggested by the three-member expert committee headed by Prof R Natarajan, former director of IIT-Chennai.

The NSUI state president in his statement said the recommendation of the expert committee was in the greater interest of the student community and suggested that it was high time the opposition parties put aside their political interests and think about the interests of the students.
