New Sainik Memorial to come up in Madikeri
Madikeri, Apr 2 (UNI) A meeting presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav has decided to build a new Sainik memorial at Madikeri.
The meeting decided to build a memorial building as the present memorial situated on the side of the road was built in the memory of soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. The meeting observed that many of soldiers from the district, which had given top generals other than brave officers and jawans to the Indian armed forces, had died during Second World War, Indo-China and Indo- Pak wars and Kargil war. They should be remembered in a proper manner, the meeting opined.
It was decided to build the memorial in the premises of the present RTO office which would be named as general Thimmaiah memorial. The RTO office building belonged to late General Thimmaiah and was sold to the department by his family. The meeting noted that there was vacant space around the building and the memorial can be built around it.
Mr Yadav appealed to Air Marshall (Rtd) Cariappa and General (Rtd) B C Nanda, who have come back to Kodagu, their mother district to spend the retired life, to inspect the land and submit a report to take up the project.
Air Marshall Cariappa suggested that the three wings of Indian Defense forces could be requested to fund the project.
