Mizoram Municipalities Bill passed in the house
Aizawl, Apr 2 (UNI) Mizoram assembly has unanimously passed the Mizoram Municipalities Bill 2007 on Friday following a detailed discussion on the issue.
Introducing the Bill in the house Chief Minister Zoramthanga said, Bill envisaged urban local bodies in the form of municipal board with the population of 50,000 and while with the population of 1,50,000 and above to municipal council and population of 5 lakh and above will have municipal corporation.
However, since district headquarters did not have the required population with the exception of Lunglei to have a municipality board, the Bill had a provision where district headquarters can have municipalities without having the needed number of population.
