Meghalaya govt takes steps to control price rise

Shillong, Apr 02 (UNI) Meghalaya Minister in-charge Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Martle N Mukhim today said the government had taken steps to control the price rise of essentials in the state.

Mr Mukhim said in the Assembly that the government had constituted a vigilance committee at the village and state level to control price rise.

Steps had been taken to ensure timely lifting and distribution of commodities under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), the Minister said.

To a query of BJP MLA A L Hek, Mr Mukhim said the government had also directed the districts and sub-divisions against those involved in diversion of TPDS foodgrains.

He further said the government had ben in continuous contact with various Chambers of Commerce in the state to ensure that adequate stocks of essentials were available in the market and that the price line was maintained.

Mr Mukhim said the government was also monitoring the prices of essentials on a daily basis and reporting the same to the monitoring cell in the Cabinet Secretariat of the Centre.
