IIM-K refuses to comment on OBC quota

Kozhikode, Apr 2 (UNI) The Indian Insitute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) has refused to comment on Supreme Court staying the law providing 27 per cent quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in higher educational institutions in the country.

''No comments on OBC issue'', IIM-K Director Krishna Kumar said when contacted by UNI over the interim order of the apex court on a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Central Educational Insitutions (Reservation in Adminission) Act 2006 that had provided the quota.

Meanwhile, the institute had decided to hike its annual fee for the Post Graduates programme beginning from the academic year June 2007, he said.

The revised fee for first year is Rs 1.9 lakh as against 1.5 Lakh and Rs 1.95 lakh instead of the existing Rs 1.65 Lakh, a 26 per cent and 18 per cent increase, respectively, Mr Krishna Kumar said.

He said the hike was necessitated to meet expenses incurred by the institute under different heads.
