GM India sales up 12 per cent in March

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) General Motors India today registered a 12 per cent growth in sales at 4,542 cars in March this year as compared to 4,070 units sold in the same month last year.

The March 2007 sales numbers included 2,175 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 426 units of Chevrolet Optra and 1,941 units of Chevrolet Aveo.

With this, GM India sold 11,405 vehicles in the first quarter of this year posting a growth of 36 per cent against 8,371 units in the corresponding period last year.

''We believe these world class products will further propel the 'Chevrolet Indian Revolution' in the automobile market,'' GM India Vice President P Balendra said.

The company is also now all set to launch the Chevrolet Spark shortly to mark its entry into the mini car segment, said Mr Balendran.

The company's Halol capacity has also been increased to 85,000 units per annum to cater to the increased market demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles.

Work on GM India's new manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra is currently on and is expected to be operational by end of next year.

The plant when completed will have an annual production capacity of 1,40,000 vehicles, Mr Balendran added.
