Editors Guild condemns press repression in Kerala
New Delhi, Apr 2(UNI) The Editors Guild of India (EGI) has condemned the 'repressive' measures of the ruling CPM in Kerala against the media there, calling it a ''tirade'' against the freedom of the press.
Accusing Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and the CPM cadre of ''sustained and wild attacks'' against the press, the EGI said the move would hamper its independent functioning and ''lead to unpleasant and ugly situations''.
Calling upon the CM to observe ''decorum and decency'' while questioning reports in the press, the EGI said mudslinging by the state government and partymen of the CPM ''was unacceptable''.
''In our democratic system there are well established channels for ventilating complaints against the media,'' it added.
