Convene all-party meet on land acquisition issue: AIKS

Hyderabad, Apr 2 (UNI) CPI-led All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) in Andhra Pradesh today demanded that an all-party meeting be convened to discuss the issue of land acquisition for Special Economic Zones and other development projects in the state.

The AIKS also wanted the Congress Government to order a judicial probe by a High Court judge or high-level revenue official into the alleged siphoning of compensation, meant for poor farmers by local Congress leaders in connivance with revenue officials in Kurnool district by fake 'Pattas', its State President K Ramakrishna told a press conference here.

The allotment of land to a company in which Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was a director had become a ''big controversy'', he said, contending that alleged lack of transparency in the acquisition process had led to heartburn among oustee farmers in the case of land acquired for SEZ in Anantapur and other places for irrigation projects.

The AIKS State Executive would meet on April 10 to chalkout an agitation programme in support of the farmers displaced without provision of proper compensation. Incidence of suicide cases was still high among farmers, who were faced with various problems, including power shortage and non-remunerative price for their produce, he lamented.
