Congress gets down to Gandhigiri to checkmate BJP

Ahmedabad, Apr 2 (UNI) Congress resorted to Gandhigiri on its second day of ''cycle yatra'' when it entered Viramgam, 65 km from here.

Over 20 to 25 BJP workers waved black flags when the ''Gandhi Sandesh Yatra'' began on the second day today and many of the posters of the yatra were blackened by the BJP workers, said Congress spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil.

Addressing mediapersons here today, he said though the BJP insulted Gandhiji, the Congress workers gave the agent flowers and garlands made of ''khadi threads.'' The yatra coordinator Moulik Vaishnav and his men also sang ''Raghupati Raghav...sabko sanmati de bhagwan'' to the BJP men, Mr Gohil said.

The yatra has started receiving good response from the people and it was welcomed in Viramgam. However a handful of BJP workers, allegedly instigated by someone high in the political hierarchy, had tried to play spoilsport today insulting Bapuji, he charged.

The police were indifferent and failed to stop the BJP workers and a complaint was filed in Viramgam police station. ''These men who blackened the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and insulted his memory must be caught,'' said Mr Gohil.
