Cong seeks to move resolution on reservation for OBCs
Bangalore, Apr 2 (UNI) The Opposition Congress today sought to move a resolution in the Karnataka Legislative Council, extending support to the Union Government's move to vacate the stay imposed by the Supreme Court on 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes in higher educational institutions.
As soon as the House assembled, Leader of the Opposition H K Patil appealed to the House Chairman to allow him to move a resolution on the issue as there was an urgent need to protect the interests of the OBCs.
Objecting the resolution, leader of the House and Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy said Mr Patil was trying to move a resolution in violation of the rules and procedures of the House. He appealed to the Chair not to allow Mr Patil to move such a resolution, without bringing to the notice of the State Government.
Council Officiating Chairman Sachidananda Khot said he would take a decision on the matter after studying the resolution.
