Asom: CM to inaugurate Karbi Langpi project

Guwahati, Apr 2: The 100 MW Karbi Langpi Hydro Electric Project will finally be inaugurated here by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on April 6.

This Rs 546.78 crore project had been sanctioned 28 years back.

The project, constructed by Asom Power Generation Corporation Ltd by tapping water from Barapani river, will be the first-of-its-kind, built by a State Government-managed board.

Initially, the cost of the project was estimated at Rs 173.69 crore, but the cost went up by more than double till the time of completion.

The cost of power generation per KW will be Rs 1.73.

The 221-metre-long and 54-metre-high concrete gravity dam has seven radial gates measuring 12m by 14m.

The water will be diverted from the high stream through a vertical gate.

The 100 MW power will be canalized from an over ground indoor-type powerhouse.
