Centre organises business summit for NE state
Aizawl, April 2: Union Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Development of Northeast Region(DoNER) will be jointly organising a business summit in New Delhi in the second week of April to attract investors to this region.
Official sources here today said that the two-day summit is scheduled to begin on April 10 and all the northeastern states, including Sikkim, will join the summit to showcase their natural resources, potential and possibilities of industrialisation.
Sources said the organisers have asked the NE states to focus on development of tourism as well as to highlight the possibilities of rubber-based industry and explore the potential of tea, handloom and handicrafts industry.
Earlier, both NEC and DoNER had made a blue-print to attract external investment to NE states with technical assistance from Asian Development Bank, sources said, adding that it sought to develop a trade and investment framework in the region.
Sources further stated that if the project was implemented, NE region would be able to occupy a better position in the global and regional markets and reap considerable gains from specialisation, agglomeration of economies and globalisation.
