Centre approves 205 projects worth Rs 17,000 cr

Coimbatore, Apr 2 (UNI) Union Ministry of Urban Development Secretary M Ramachandran today said the government has approved 205 projects worth Rs 17,000 crore for the improvement of larger cities in the country under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM).

Talking to newspersons here, he said the total grant will be about Rs 8,300 crore and the Centre has already released Rs 1,200 crore as first instalment of 25 per cent for implementation of these projects.

He said out of the approved projects, 64 are for water supply, 34 for sewarage, 39 for road and flyovers, 27 for drainage and 20 for solid waste management.

He said out of the 63 mission cities, three would be in Andhra Pradesh, two each in Karnataka and Kerala, three in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry.

He said the projects approved in Tamil Nadu cost Rs 1,200 crore, of which Rs 521 crore will come as Central Grant during implementation.
