Cases on Lankan fishermen
Cuddalore, Apr 2 (UNI) The authorities here today slapped cases under the Foreigners Act and the Passport Act on the six Lankan fishermen whose boat drifted to Devnampattinam Port here after developing a technical snag.
Police sources said after questioning the fishermen, the Customs officials seized the boat this morning. An inspection revealed neither explosives nor weapons. The boat only had some rations and vegetables.
The fishermen had set sail from the Kudbay near Triconmalle on March 28. The boat developed a technical snag after which it was adrift till April one when one of the local fishermen, Suresh, noticed it and informed the police.
The fishermen swam ashore after which they were arrested. Last night, they were interrogated by IB and Q Branch officials.
