Campaign for MCD polls ends on April 4: State EC

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) Putting at rest speculation about the date on which campaigning for polls to the Municipal Corporation would end, the Delhi Election Commission today said convassing would conclude at 1700 hrs on April 4.

''As the relevant provisions of the DMC Act forbid public meetings, canvassing etc only on the day of polling, some doubts are prevailing about the time when the election campaign will come to an end. It is clarified for the information of the general public and all concerned that public meetings, procession etc. and canvassing in any form will come to an end at 1700 hrs on April 4, 2007,''Delhi Election Commissioner S P Marwah said in a statement issued here today.

''I trust that all candidates and political parties would cooperate with the Election Commission in preserving the purity of elections and maintaining law and order,'' Mr Marwah said.
