About 40 children fall ill after taking mid-day meal

Kaithal, Apr 2 (UNI) About 40 students of Government Primary School Kailram of this district were hospitalised following food poisoning after consuming the mid day meal today.

According to reports received here, sweet rice mixed with soyabeen nuggets was served to about 100 students of school in the afternoon under the mid Day meal scheme.

However, after consuming the rice, many students started vomiting and complained of nausea and diorrhoea.

As the news reached the villagers, there was panic as parents and other people rushed to the school and later assembled outside the civil hospital where they were rushed to by officials.

The students started arriving in the hospital at around 1500 hrs and within three hours at least 36 had been hospitalised.

Dr J.P. Saluja SMO , Medical superintendent said the condition of the children was ''stable''.

The administration had sent a team to collect samples of the food to ascertain the cause of food poisoning.
