'UPA Govt will defend OBC law with full force'

Bangalore, Apr 1: The Union Government will defend its notification for providing reservation to OBC in higher education 'with all sincerity', Union Law Minister H R Bharadwaj said.

Speaking after the valedictory function of training camp organised by Bangalore Mediation Centre at Karnataka High Court here last night, he said it is the Government's law and it will be its duty ensure that Supreme Court upheld the law. It will defend it with full force and sincerity. We have appointed best lawyers to defend the law and I assure you that the government is committed, he said.

The Supreme Court had recently put on hold the notification providing 27 per cent reservation to OBC in elite educational institutions.

The Minister felt that the media had hyped the confrontation between the Judiciary and the Executive. All wings of democracy should be given full play. However, the Judiciary will ultimately resolve any issue, he added.
