Three over ground workers of militants nabbed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 1 (UNI) Troops arrested three over ground workers, two of them close associates of top Al Badr militant Pathan Bhai, in the Kashmir valley today and seized some arms and ammunition from them, a defence spokesman said.

On a specific information, he said personnel of 9 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation in the general area of Mirhama, about six km from Kulgam in Anantnag district.

During the operation, the spokesman said troops noticed the suspicious movement of two individuals and later apprehended them.

He said the over ground workers have been identified as Sartaj Ahmed Baba and Ashiq Hussain Sofi, both resident of Shopian area.

Troops also seized two Chinese hand grenades, 24 rounds of AK ammunition, Rs 20 in Nepali currency, one mobile phone and an Airtel SIM card, the spokesman added.

During interrogation, the two confessed to be close associates of Pathan Bhai, the district commander of Al-Badr militant outfit for Shopian area. They were later handed over to the Kulgam police station for further interrogation, the spokesman said.

In another operation, he said troops of 18 RR launched a search operation in Kupwara district.

During the operation, troops apprehended an over ground worker of militants, identified as Nazir Ahmed Bhatt of Cheepura village.

The spokesman said Bhat was found to be involved in providing logistic support and shelter to Lashkar-e-Toiba militants.

He was later handed over to the police.
