Three members of family die in Sikkim accident
Gangtok, Apr 1 (UNI) Three persons were kiled and the same number, of a family, injured when the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into Rangit river in West Sikkim, police said today.
The dead have been identified as Durgapur Steel Plant's assistant general manager Basudev Kotra (50), his wife Suryalekha (45) and his mother-in-law T Ramanathan (65).
His daughters Aysharwa, Aunshuya and son Adiya, were injured and were admitted to Namchi hospital with serious injuries before being shifted to a hospital in Siliguri in West Bengal today, police added. Police said the accident occurred when the family, on holiday, were travelling to Darjeeling from Pelling on a rented vehicle that skidded off the road and fell some 100 mts down into Rangit river at Reshi, about 150 south of Gagntok, last evening.
While Kotra and his mother-in-law died on the spot, Suryalekha, a gynaecologist of DSP hospital, died on way to Namchi Hospital.
Police handed over the bodies to the relatives in the day.
